Saru Jayaraman, co-founder and co-director of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United and director of the Food Labor Research Center at UC-Berkeley, will discuss low wages and labor practices in the U.S. restaurant industry in her talk, “Behind the Kitchen Door.” The talk takes place from 12-1:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 in the Okazaki Community Meeting Room (room 155) in the College of Social Work building, 395 South 1500 East. There will be free soup provided by University Dining Services.

WORK SESSIONS

Monday

  • 12-2 PM Work Session @ Pioneer Garden
    • Tasks: harvest potatoes, flag peppers

Tuesday

  • 9-11 AM Work Session @ Pioneer Garden
  • 4-6 PM Work Session @ Sill Garden
    • Tasks: move rocks and fill new box beds, prep beds

Wednesday

  • 9-12 Work Session @ Pioneer Garden
    • Tasks: Move soil and construction prep
  • 3-5 PM Harvest Session @ Pioneer Garden
    • Tasks: Farmers Market harvest, compost/sift

Thursday

  • 8 AM- 3PM Farmers Market @ Tanner Plaza (please RSVP uofucampusgardens@gmail.com)
    • 8 AM-10 AM: Meet at the Pioneer Garden for set up
    • 10 AM-12 PM: Meet at Tanner Plaza help manage the stand
    • 12 PM-2 PM: Help manage the stand
    • 2 PM-3 PM: Help break down and clean up
  • 6:30-7:30 PM Work Session @ Pioneer Garden
    • Continue construction prep
