Join us Thursday for the final day of the 2013 University of Utah Farmers Market! We’re focusing on outdoor cooking this week, and those who attend will be sure to leave with some tasty food ideas to try over fall break.
Dutch Oven cooking expert and Lowell Bennion Community Service Center employee Debbie Hair will host cooking demonstrations during the market. She will share tips and techniques for cooking delicious meals outdoors, whether in your backyard or in the backcountry. Debbie will also have copies of her new cookbook, “Dutch Oven Breakfasts,” available for purchase. Look for her booth at the center of the market near the Bicycle Valet.
Once you’ve gotten inspired for outdoor cooking, you can shop for ingredients at various vendors’ food stalls. As usual, the Veggie Valet will be available until 4:30 p.m. to store any produce while you’re in classes or at work.
Rain or shine, the market goes on! As the last market of the season, Thursday is your last chance to purchase fresh veggies from the Edible Campus Gardens and Tagge’s Famous Fruits. Feeling a chill? Grab a hot beverage from Charming Beard Coffee and get warm lunch from University Dining, Tamales Tita, Caribbean Grill, or Surefire Pizza.
The Farmers Market links local growers, food producers, artisans, and local non-profits with the campus community and visitors for a fun and tasty weekly event. Come join us for another year to enjoy a great selection of fresh produce and foods from local businesses. Market highlights include the student-run Edible Campus Gardens produce booth and the University Dining Services’ popular lunch stand. New amenities to the U of U Farmers Market in 2013 include bicycle valet parking courtesy of Commuter Services and a veggie valet produce storage service courtesy of University Dining Services. The market is in its 6th year.
The Farmers Market runs from 10 am to 2 pm on Thursdays through October 10 in Tanner Plaza between the Union and Student Services Building.
